Northern Overlook by nagohsirhc Northern Overlook by nagohsirhc
Learning new techniques is something I strive to do as often as possible. Recently while watching my favorite TV station (PBS) I ran across an old Bob Ross episode. From that episode, I painted quite a few landscapes using a wet-on-wet oil paint technique. Here is one of those results! Enjoy~

Oh wow the mountains look so realistic. Love it...really looks like snow. And the Northern Lights look almost eerie, works well

Wow! Thank you for that, makes my day seeing that it is featured on someone's page! It is the reason I make art, to make others happy; if it does this to more because of it, I am truly appreciative! Thanks again ;)

Epic love the way the wet on wet technique creates a realistic image for northern lights.

I agree! The technique has really pleased me as I was an artist that used to not care so much for landscapes. Learning the technique made me find a new disposition on what landscape artists produce; which I now find amazing when I see one that is excellent!

Thanks for the compliment, more to come :)

Thank you! It was a branch out from my normal style (if I even have a normal style, lol). I really like creativity and learning any technique that moves it along is worth it for me to try. After watching all 28 seasons of Bob Ross, I figured if he can do it, so can I. And what do you know, I was able to :)

Thanks again for the compliments, hopefully I can keep surprising you with new mediums and techniques for my creativity to seep out on!

That's one thing I really love about you as an artist-- your versatility. You're not afraid to try a BUNCH of different styles and techniques and completely own them. Keep it up! :)

Been awhile since I have had the time to reply back (school, work, and art take up a lot of my time). Since I have been going to school, the techniques and skills I am learning are going to expand upon this immensely while I try to at least adopt a few styles that will make a series of artwork. I figure making a series of paintings/drawings/or other artwork will hone the style down really well and make for some interesting compositions :)

Thanks again for following my art and giving the motivation and inspiration to make more!! :)

Thanks! I am sort of new to Deviant, do you have a link to nephilim's art? It is inspiring to look at others art, especially when it is similar to a style that I have done or attempting.

Thanks again and hope I can still make more that gives a smile like this one does!

I used to watch Bob Ross too, and loved his technique of knife painting the mountain's shadows and lights using his "whisper" way of how much pressure to put on them. When I saw you're painting, it reminded me immediately of his technique's...You've done an amazing job with this one...the only thing I would have done is to make the shadow side a tad darker...but hey that's me and my two cents! Well done nagohsirhc! Lovely painting!

Thanks!! This might be number 10 or so using this new technique. I appreciate the critique, it helps me make the next pieces to incorporate what people like. After-all, if I can make you smile or bring a little joy into your life, then I accomplished my task. If there are methods that do this even more.... I learn them from critiques!! Thanks again~ Have a great evening/day/morning :)

I believe my pieces are reasonably priced. This one in particular is 20x20 inches (approx.) and would probably be tagged at $75ish. Since it is oil paint, it will need another week or two to completely dry :)

If you want to see more of my work, including the prices, I have a Facebook fan page at www.facebook.com/ChristopherHoganArtwork or this link to my "For Sale" album: [link]
